Automet Lighters

Automet Lighters

The Automet lighter refers to a series of vintage aluminum block petrol lighters manufactured in the United States, primarily during the 1940s and 1950s. These lighters are notable for their cylindrical or block-shaped aluminum bodies, often with distinct machine-fluted or cross-hatched patterns. Many were marked “Automet N.Y.”, indicating production in New York, and some models include convenient features such as integrated tools for maintaining the flint spring.

Most Automet lighters were produced in the mid to late 1940s, with some extending into the early 1950s.

Made primarily from machined or cast aluminum, with certain versions incorporating features such as a spring-loaded flip-up lid and precise roller mechanisms for ignition.

They include block-shaped lighters, cylindrical lighters, and some rare pencil-lighter combination models, all designed for portability and durability.

These are petrol (liquid fuel) lighters, requiring flint and wick replacements. Some models have user-friendly features, such as spare flint storage and easy-to-fill fuel reservoirs.
